Richie made his cooking debut with the 1977 dish Grand Theft Gelato, and left Sappy Days Restaurant in 1980 to focus on opening a restaurant. His dishes include the JBF Award-winning Macaroon, Gelato 13, and A Beautiful Roast Beef Grind. In 2003, he was awarded the National Medal of Culinary Arts.
